BEYOND BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY

2026, Ongoing

Beyond Bird Photography is a body of work interlinking Ornithological knowledge, together with the British visual culture of wildlife photography. The work presents a personal archive of bird photography, however attempting to subvert and reimagine commercial and popular visual representations. The selected approach uses “failed” images to de-spectacularise; since birds are a prime example of animals which have been commodified under capitalism. Here, the camera diverts from being an extractive device which perfectly represents natural histories, it rather becomes a tool to produce an archive of decentralised ecological knowledge: showing birds hiding, eating, resting, washing, walking, flitting away.
